Continuing ORILAND MAGIC STAR showcase! Please, welcome Chiyo Magic Star – an action model that can be rotated, producing a mesmerizing effect of changing Chiyogami patterns and colours! :-) This variant of Oriland Magic Star is folded from 48 squares of paper, without any glue or cutting. For it we used fabulous Chiyogami papers of 48 different colourings and patterns. We kept the same scheme (like in our classic Magic Star) of 6 spectral colours of rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. So each of 6 Ring-Modules made out of 8 squares in one colour, but with…

Star Helena (Design by Carmen Sprung) Sara Adams posted a new instructional video and I just couldn’t wait to get started on folding it. I really like the way the star comes together with the color changing variation and the fact that this model requires only one sheet of paper to fold. Paper to Use: You can fold this model with Kami, tant, tissue foil or even nice wrapping paper. However, you should keep in mind that if you are going to use this as a CD or DVD cover, the paper would have to be thicker than a fine tissue paper. I used yellow colored Tant paper and pasted a thin sheet of…

Celebrate spring and the beginning of May, the traditional way, by making a paper flower bouquet to give to someone you love! Mine are being delivered by a wonderful letterpress insects, with obvious good manners.I took my most mini (5/16") paper flower punch and popped out several layers from a mixture of papers, even some doublette crepe scraps. I used a soft scrap of neoprene to press the layers into with a stylus. This stacking order worked well; one punched flower with a drop of glue, a length of wire (painted green) for the stem atop the glue, then a couple more punched flowers set on…

  • Another Shuzo Fujimoto Tessellation

Tessellation (Shuzo Fujimoto) It’s been some time since I folded and I haven’t really got into the routine of folding. I tried out this tessellation by none other than the master Shuzo Fujimoto and I quite like the way it has turned out. There is a lot of pre-creasing required and which is expected with folding a tessellation. However, once you get the hang of the technique, its gets done pretty quickly.   Paper to use: I have used a 15cm square sheet of Kami for my rendition – single side colored.  This design took me about an hour and a half to fold, but thats only…

Heart-Flower Box (Design by Carlos Aquilar)   This is a design which was published in Leyla Torres’ Origami Spirit a few days ago. I absolutely love the ‘petals’ of this box and the fact that I can use it to store tit bits and with Easter right round the corner – Chocolate Eggs! I have folded a container or box origami design after simply ages and that is only because I am not usually a fan of the four sided models. However, this particular design caught my eye and I simply had to get busy with it. Paper to use: I have used square duo-colored tant paper measuring…

Columbus Tower (Design by David Mitchell) A Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all! This is my first fold after my vacation and I am really happy to get back into the routine of folding. This is a design which is a modification of Paul Jackson’s cube – it has a ‘dent’ like pocket in the corner of the cube in order to be able to stack them up. This is fun to fold and quick, too. However, stacking them up requires patience and of course, a flat surface. Paper to use: In the instructional video you see below, they use 15cm sized square paper for each unit, with 6 units…

  • Season's Greeting 2011: The Grand Advent-ture

    6 Jan 2012 | 2:53 am
Holiday Greeting 2011--May Your Days Be Merry & Bright!(Mini advent tree card shown opened and displayed on the built-in pop-up stand.)It's that time of year, when we can share what we came up with for the holiday season's greeting. This year, I wanted to make a mini-advent calendar, just the last five days of December mind you. I'd have to have started in May to get a 100 of a full 25-day advent cards made. As it was I was starting even later than usual. And even though I strove to keep the design as simple as possible, I admit the cards whupped me. I was injured, unwell,…

Couple years back's thank you cards were white pom poms centers over embossed paper petals stitched onto hand cut cardboard flats with green thread. The stems were kept simple, made of long thread stitches that a thumb cut tag could slide onto.Matching kraft paper envelopes and using a green ink pen finish the quick-to-make set.
